ARE YOU PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN?
INDIA CELEBRATED its 59th Republic Day today with great pomp and splendour, with French President, Nicolas Sarkozy as the chief guest. Parades and the flag hoisting ceremony at government and private offices, schools and other educational institutions were some of the highlights of this Republic Day. Ironically, however, people living in remote areas of the country have no idea about the day. For them, securing two square meals a day is all that matters.
Even 58 years after the introduction of the Indian Constitution, the people living in far flung areas of India, do not attach any importance to the Constitution and its articles. On the other hand, for the urban people, the day is just another national holiday.
Do we, as Indians really understand the importance of being a democratic republic? Based on personal observations, I think democracy has now become an ordinary word from the English dictionary. Republic Day, which signifies the setting up of our democracy has become just another national holiday.

We celebrate Republic Day every year and forget about its significance the very next day. Poverty, unemployment, illiteracy are the common problems faced by the people in far-flung areas. If people are not literate then how can they possibly understand the importance of democracy? Not only our political leaders, it is our duty as well to turn India into a prosperous nation, only then would the hard work of Ambedkar and his Constituent Assembly show positive results.
Are you one among the billion indians who has a tear in your eye when u listen to the national anthem or any patriotic song? Please think about this.
Proud to be an indian..forever..
